Cinque Terre

The beautiful sunset

Two (tired) backpackers, a bottle of wine and a sunset. What a life! The bottle of wine took 2 bottle openers, 2 girls, 6 men and 15 minutes to open... what a drama!
Hello everyone,
After the hustle and bustle of Rome, we visited the Cinque Terre, a gorgeous part of northern Italy. The Cinque Terre, which translates as 'five lands', is 5 cliff side villages connected by a coastal path. We stayed in the last village, Riomaggiore, and then walked alond the coast to the other villages. It's a 12 km walk, some of it easy, some of it not so easy, that offers some of the most amazing views in Italy.
We spent 7 hours on the track - taking breaks to explore each town and, of course, spending a lot of time taking photos! A wonderful way to spend a Saturday. Thanks, Jolanda, for the tip - we had a really relaxing few days in Cinque Terre, a highlight for both Mel and I.
Here are a few photos (as always, I took bazillions so it was very difficult to choose.....)
Enjoy,
Love Sarah xx
The start of the path

Some village houses in Manarola with the terraces in the background - where wine and oil are produced

Just a glimpse of what I got to enjoy for 7 hours

A beach along the way to Corneglia

Corneglia - colourful houses that typify the Cinque Terre

Look down onto Vernazza - stunning coastal views. There were loads of boats out enjoying the magnificent scenery and the magnificent weather - a pretty sweet place for cruising around!

Vernazza - much busier than our little village. The smells wafting from the pizza shops was unbelievable!

So peaceful

and so colourful!

Looking back down onto Vernazza from the other side of the track. Dad, you could moor your boat here?!

Look at the amazing views, Dad, does this convince you?!?!

Dad, imagine cruising past this every day, be nice wouldn't it??!?!

In the last village, Monterosso, we bought a bottle of wine, rested our feet and took in the view over a glass of red. A lovely way to end the walk!

Swimming in Monterosso

More colourful umbrellas; looks so welcoming

The tunnel leading back to our village - don't worry, we didn't walk the 12km back, we caught the train!

Looking out over Riomaggiore, our village

From the little harbour

And again! I just loved all the colours and the amazing scenery. My camera got a real work out :)
As the sun was beginning to fade, casting it's warm glow onto all that is below
